THICKNESS OF STONE:
Stone comes in thicknesses of 20mm and 30mm, 30mm is the norm for worktops and 20mm for upstands and splashbacks. 40mm and 20/20mm are possible by special arrangement, please contact our office direct for details.
TEMPLATING:
Once you have decided the stone for your kitchen, bathroom or vanity top an appointment can be arranged with us to go to your home. Templating is the first step and also the most important one for successful work completions. Our expert templaters are highly skilled to take very accurate measurements for the templating process and they are also there to help or advise with all relevant details and to the work that follows.
It is essential the following points are carried out prior to us templating on site:
- We would request that you or a trusted representative be present during templating to agree all relevant details such as overhang, joints and height of splash backs etc. Advice can also be given at this point with regard to any alterations and additional work that would need to be carried out if necessary before the new worktops can be fitted.
- All surface/carcasses to be templated must be complete, flat and level. The final level of the worktops can only be as good as the level of the units supporting them.
- We accept no liability for problems caused additions or alterations to the furniture or appliances etc. after the templating has taken place.
- If replacing existing worktops they must be removed. This allows the carcasses to be viewed and assessed and advice can then be given if any additional work needs to be carried out before the new worktops can be fixed or fitted.
- Gas or electric hobs must be disconnected but available on site.
- Belfast/butler sinks must be fixed in position before we can template.
- Under mounted sinks must be on site at the template stage.
- Inset sinks and taps must be disconnected but available on site.
- Any units to be fitted directly on top of the worktops must be fitted after the worktops (recommended) or on adjustable wall brackets to give adequate clearance. It is not acceptable to leave a gap and expect to slide the worktops under.
- If any walls around the worktops are to be plastered or altered in any way they must be done either before templating or after fitting the worktops.
- Unless specified, we reserve the right to use our own judgment regarding all overhangs but accept no responsibility if these are later found to be unacceptable.
PREPARATIONS/CONSIDERATIONS:
- Supporting the worktop:
It might be necessary to add extra supports specifically this is for kitchen units as this does not apply for bathrooms and you can discuss this with our templater when he comes on his first visit.
- Kitchen Units:
Making sure that the units are level is the most important thing for you to consider with kitchen units. Ensure that units are fixed together and that are secured to walls. There must be no movement of the units as this could cause the stone to crack or break.
- Access on site:
As you may realize that the stone is heavy so do think about any difficulties that may arise for the fitters when bringing the granite, marble or quartz stone into your home. This can be also discussed with the templater when he comes on his visit to template.
- Children/pets:
Heavy stone, children and pets are not a good combination so do please make sure they are tucked away safely in another room. Thank you.
FITTING:
- If any sink, tap or hob has been reconnected after templating they must be disconnected and removed.
- All electrical, gas and sink fittings to be removed by you or your kitchen fitting company if they interfere in any way with the installation of the new worktops.
- Tiling in areas around the worktops must take place after fixing the worktops.
- In the event of plasterwork etc. being disturbed during fixing, all making good and subsequent cost to be the clients responsibility.
- We have neither the tools nor the skills to undertake any plumbing, gas, electrical, plastering or carpentry work.
- All work surface levels will follow unit levels.
- Upon completion of fitting you or your representative will be asked to sign a satisfaction note to say that you accept the workmanship and quality of your granite surface and that they meet you requirements.
- Standing on the finished worktops is to be avoided at all costs!
